Why will my laptop accept an ac charge, but shuts off when plugged up?

Concerning a HP .P .Pavilion zv6000 laptop and it will charge properly, but shuts off mere seconds after I plug the item up.That works as well fine while on battery power.What may just be causing this

Something’s wrong while using battery.Go checked available by HP .P ., or by means of someone that knows around the problem, before buying a replacement power supply.
