How to Make a Booklet in Word
This applies to a printer that has booklet printing as part of its duplex options (ex HP c7280). With the C7280 you can select “Left Edge Booklet” under the “Print on Both Sides” option. If you select Booklet in Word and the printer also tries to make a booklet you end up with four pages on each side of a piece of paper instead of two.
1.) Under the “Page Layout” tab, open “Page Setup”. This is the small arrow in the lower right corner of the page setup.
2.) In the “Pages” section, use the “Multiple Pages” drop-down box and select “Mirror margins”. This keep the front and the back of the pages aligned to the correct edge.
3) That’s all you set in Word.

When it is time to print your booklet, select “Print” from the Word menu. Do not select quick print as you still need to change the printer settings.
1). When the print window opens, select the printer you want to use and then click the “Properties” box. This opens the printer settings window.
2). Under the “Printer on both sides” option, select “Left-edge Booklet”.
3) Click “OK” to close the printer settings.
4) Click “OK” to start printing.

As you type in Word, you will only see single pages of your booklet. When you print, Word and the printer will take your pages, reduce them to 1/2 size and place them in the proper order for printing.
When printing is complete, all you have to do is folder the paper in half and your booklet is complete.
For a CD Booklet 4.75 by 4.75, in Word I set the margins for
Top – 0.25
Bottom – 4.00
Inside – 0.25
Outside – 1.4
I know that on a 8.5 x 11 piece of paper this gives me more than 4.75 inches of writing space, but when the page is reduced to fit on a half-piece of paper (folded to 5.5 x 8.6). The pages come out prefect to trim to 4.75 by 4.75 and fit nicely into a CD case.
