Do HP photosmart printers contain the print heads on the cartridges? or are they seperated?

have a C4180..and experts agree it is sitting without even being aroused for 3 years…and think the printer cartridges require replaced however dont recognize if are the printer head there after and might in addition invest in the new inkjet etc
