Microsoft has sold 28 million Xbox worldwide since its launch.

The U.S.group Microsoft announced Tuesday that it sold 28 million copies of its video game console Xbox 360 since its launch in late 2005 after a Christmas splendor that enabled him to increase his lead over the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Sony.

“Despite a difficult economic context, the Xbox has experienced in 2008” the best years of its history, “said Microsoft in a press release, which made its entry into the market for video games only six years ago.

The group has reaped the rewards of its aggressive pricing policy, offering the cheapest console on the market (179 euros for the entry level model).

In Europe, Microsoft has won eight million customers, thus widening the gap with the PS3 over a million consoles, “he said, explaining the numbers by” an excellent year-end.”

According to the research institute GfK, sales jumped 100% in December compared to 2007 in the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

In the world, the PS3 (399) elapsed to nearly 19.5 million units since its commercialization in late 2006.  Nintendo Wii (249), which targets a family audience, still dominates the market with more than 45 million consoles sold to date.
